Impulse! Records set (vinyl only)

Soundtrack by… the turntable champions who set the scene for the night. Sometimes with a minimalist, ambient noise or deep drones in the background, sometimes with a maximalist, pulsing rhythm. But always with a true DJ heart, in the right place.
 
Serving up tunes on Wednesday night is Kurt Overbergh (BE). The artistic director of AB and curator of Feeërieën is an avid collector of what he considers ‘The Ultimate Gold’: albums on the legendary Impulse! Records label, whose adventurous jazz caused quite the stir back in the 60s. Jazz lovers know it as ‘The House That Trane Built’.
 
That means magnificent gatefold sleeves, extensive liner notes (a lost art according to Overbergh) and, most importantly, Impulse!’s trademark black and orange style. 

Overbergh will play a vinyl-only Impulse! Records set with tracks from artists including Alice Coltrane, Max Roach, Shirley Scott, Archie Shepp, Elvin Jones, Yusef Lateef, Irreversible Entanglements, Art Blakey, Freda Payne, Johnny Hartman and John Coltrane.
